I build apps. Full stack, start to finish — database, API, and the screen people actually touch. It's what I've done longest and what I'm best at.

"AI" covers two different jobs, and I keep them apart. One is building with LLMs: getting a feature to behave once real people are using it, which is mostly evals, error analysis, and prompts that don't fall over the first time someone surprises you. The other is machine learning proper — training models, which is where I started and is a separate discipline with its own failure modes. Being good at one does not make you good at the other.

Most of the apps I build use no AI at all. The ones that do only use it where it earns its place. The rest is just software — and software is easier to keep working.
